The TRAXX AC1 is a series of electric locomotives developed primarily for freight transport. The designation TRAXX stands for ‘Transnational Railway Applications with eXtreme fleXibility’. The 185.1 class, directly derived from the 145 class but now with a modified design and class designation, was now suitable for use on both AC systems common in Europe: 15 kV/16 2/3 Hz and 25 kV/50 Hz. Weighing 84 tonnes, it delivers 5.6 MW of continuous power and is approved for 140 km/h. For cross-border operations, the locomotives were equipped with various country packages. 65 locomotives (185 085 – 185 149) were delivered with the Swiss country package. From May 2007, 185 142 was in service in the striking Edelweiss livery.
